EXPERIENCE A FAMILY VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS PARTY
Join the award-winning AsOne Theatre Company for a delightful 70 minutes, at a Victorian-themed family party with entertainment. Begin with a magical lantern-lit parade led by the company, guiding guests from Brewers Quay to the evocative Weymouth Drama Club’s newly renovated Hope street, Harbour Theatre.
Traditional Victorian Games
Step back in time by participating in some traditional Victorian parlour games. Enjoy favourites such as Pass the Parcel, Musical Chairs, Squeak-Piggy -Squeak, or Blind Man’s Buff. Period costume is encouraged to enhance the festive atmosphere, though it is by no means compulsory.
A Christmas Carol Performance
The highlight of the party is a fun, participatory adaptation of Charles Dickens’ much loved cherished classic, A Christmas Carol. This new version, created by AsOne Artistic Director Jane McKell, is performed by just two actors using minimal props, projected visuals, and an original soundscape. This storytelling performance brings Dickens’ 1843 novella vibrantly to life, with “lickety-spit-paced” rhyming-verse, and the true spirit of Christmas at heart.
Interactive Festivities for All Ages
Audience participation is warmly encouraged throughout. Guests are invited to join in singing and sound effects, while children are invited to bring along their own hand-made card lanterns, complete with LED candles. Templates for these lanterns can easily be found online. If Scrooge is feeling generous, he may even inspect the lanterns and reward their creators with chocolate coins!
Community Singing and Festive Farewell
The celebration concludes with joyful community singing and the sharing of festive crackers. This event warmly welcomes guests of all ages for an unforgettable evening of seasonal cheer and togetherness.
