Junior Members

We have a lively junior membership for 7 to 16 year olds, plus our special Cheers group for young people with learning difficulties. The membership is divided into age groups as shown below and these groups make up our Curtain Raisers. On reaching 16, most youngsters progress to BTG, Bridge the Gap, which is a group of young people who enjoy exploring contemporary theatre, often improvised and devised.

There are opportunities to take part in adult productions, skills workshops, including technical skills, Festivals, end of term showcases and theatre trips. We are also members of National Association of Youth Theatres and West Dorset Youth Theatre Consortium. Not only do you get the thrill of being on stage, but being in the Curtain Raisers is a great way to make new friends, boost your confidence and self esteem, learning how to work as a team but mainly JUST TO HAVE FUN.

Here’s what a few of our members have to say;

The Curtain Raisers is good fun, with good Leaders. You make new friends and have great productions. Elijah, aged 11

Weymouth Drama Club has been an incredibly large source of positivity in my life. I love the friends I’ve made through the Club and the leaders are fantastic. Tabitha, 14.

Weymouth Drama Club has been a huge part of my life and has been a big impact on how good I have got. I would never miss a lesson. Abi, aged 10.

I love the thrill of the stage; being in the Curtain Raisers has given me some of the most amazing opportunities and helped me develop my acting skills greatly. Laura, BTG group.

Although it can be a challenge, it is also a privilege to work with such an inspiring group of young people. Youth Theatre Leader.

Once a young person has finished year 11, they may chose to stay as a student helper and/or join the adult Drama Club or join BTG (Bridge the Gap).  BTG is a group of young people who are interested in exploring contemporary theatre.  They have appeared at Camp Bestival and have created their own site specific pieces of Treasure Island and Robin Hood.
